Participants may register for as many classes as desired at any HHS work site(s) where classes are offered. All classes are held at the HHS Shine Wellness Centre locations. Head to the Wellness Centres page for location details.

IMPORTANT DATES: 
  • Registration: Now until November! Passes available at all times. 
  • Session Dates: Sept 25th - Dec 1st, 2017 (10 weeks); Monday Classes are 8 weeks (NO CLASSES Oct 9 or Nov 13)

  • Learn to Run Groups (MUMC, JHCC, SPH): Meet up with other runners every week at 4:30PM. Click here for details and to register. 
  • FREE Walking Group at HGH: Join your colleagues every Wednesday from 12:15-12:45PM for a brisk walk led by enthusiastic students from the Health, Wellness and Fitness program at Mohwak College. Drop-in starting Sept 27th and will run for 10 consecutive weeks. Arrive at the McMaster Wing entrance early or on time for a fun, active lunch break! Please register here.
*NEW OPTION!!! If the class times/types scheduled do not meet your needs, you may request a specific class (type and time) once you have at least 8 people recruited and committed to taking the class. Jessica will be happy to work with you and your fitness friends in getting a class on the schedule that meets your unique needs and preferences!


HOW TO REGISTER:

Register online using the site-specific registration forms located on the right side of this page.
Please fill out a separate form for each class you wish to take. 

PLEASE NOTE:

  • A minimum of 10 people are required for each class.
  • Register NOW to get the most out of the session. Ask colleagues to join in the fun!


PROGRAM COSTS & PAYMENT DETAILS: 

Once you have submitted your online registration form, you will be required to complete your payment for the class session(s) you selected. A confirmation email, including detailed payment instructions, will be sent to those who register successfully once the minimum number required for the class to run is reached. This will be sent at least 3 days prior to the first class of the session. The fall session fees are as follows:

HGH, MUMC, JHCC (45 Minute Classes):

  • Cost: $40.00 (10 week session) - Yoga
  • Cost: $20.00 (10 week session); $16.00 (8 week Monday sessions) - Spin, Strength, Circuit
  • *Shine 5-Class Flex Pass: Cost: $30.00 (choose any 5 classes at any site!)
  • *Shine 10-Class Flex Pass: Cost: $60.00 (choose any 10 classes at any site!)

Spin Classes (10 or 8-week session): Cost: $20.00 (10 weeks) and $16.00 (8 weeks) (JHCC & MUMC only).

You can pay either 1) online with credit card, or 2) by cash, debit, or credit in-person at the Cashier Site at your workplace. You will have to print out and show the cashier your confirmation email. If paying online using your credit card please use the code indicated in your confirmation email as the account number.



SHINE FITNESS PROGRAM POLICIES:

  • Only Hamilton Health Sciences staff, physicians and volunteers and McMaster staff are eligible to register for fitness and wellness classes.
  • You are responsible for your own attendance once registered for a class.
  • A Waiver Form and PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) MUST be completed, signed and submitted before participating. 
  • All participants must present their Staff ID badge when entering each class session. Shine Pass holders must present their pass and have it signed by the instructor at each class attended.
  • Each class is subject to a max enrollment, which varies depending on class format, to provide the safest environment possible. Once the max number have entered the class, the class will then be closed.
  • Participants may enter the class up to 5 minutes after start time. After 5 minutes or the end of the warm-up period, the class is closed to prevent injuries.
  • Shine reserves the right to adjust the schedule when necessary. Changes will only occur if a class needs to be cancelled prior to the start of the session due to low registration numbers. 
  • Fitness class registrations are non-transferable.
  • Proper attire and footwear must be worn to attend fitness classes.
  • Participants will receive a full refund if:
    • The fitness class you are registered for is cancelled by the Shine Wellness Program prior to the start date of the program (i.e. if minimum participant numbers are not met).
    • Participant withdraws from a program seven (7) or more days prior to the first class.


OTHER INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Fitness Class Participants: If you have not already done so, you must complete your Waiver & Par-Q form. You may complete your orientation online here.

2) If you intend to take a Yoga (or other mat-based classes), please bring your own mat if you have one. If you do not have one, a limited number of mats will be available for use during the class.


CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

BOOT CAMP: This class will get your heart pumping and your adrenaline soaring. You will use your own body weight as well as equipment to strengthen your muscles and increase your cardio endurance. This class is suitable for all levels and movements can be modified based on fitness level.

CIRCUIT CITY:
Join a class that has varied lengths of cardio and muscle intervals.  A multitude of exercises and options to cater to everyone’s strength & endurance.  

PILATES: Great for core strength and posture! Increase your awareness of your body position and decrease joint strain and stress.

TOTAL BODY STRENGTH: If you want to improve your strength and fitness, then this is the class for you! Learn how to lift weights properly and effectively, use your own body weight as resistance, and have fun while getting stronger. All levels welcome! 

YOGA/HATHA YOGA: Join this class to improve your flexibility, balance and reduce stress. The essence of Yoga is to focus on breath and mindful movement. This is class is suitable for beginners to experienced, all levels welcome.

ZUMBA:
 Come join the party! Fun and simple choreography!  Great Latin music!

SPIN (MUMC & JHCC only): Get an intense cardio workout as you tackle rolling hills, sprints, intervals and other drills that get your heart pumping. The best part is that you control your own resistance and speed allowing you to continuously progress beyond your current fitness level. Sessions will run for 8 weeks. Cost: $40 (or $32 for 8 week Monday sessions)
